Social Compliance Code of Conduct

The Social Compliance Code of Conduct of Komatsu Matere Group (hereinafter referred to as “our group”) is prescribed here on June 8, 2018 to ensure adherence to laws and regulations on business activities, fulfill our responsibilities to society and the environment, and protect the human rights, other rights, safety and working environment of all of our group’s employees.

This Code of Conduct is based on the following principles:

  1. The Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact for facilitating ethical dealings
  2. Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights
  3. ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work
  4. UN Universal Declaration on Human Rights and other major international human rights standards

  1. Forced labor

    Our group shall not impose forced labor on employees through the use of violence, threats, restriction through debt or any other means.

  2. Child labor

    Our group shall not employ children under 15 years of age, or have young employees under 18 work at night or in dangerous conditions.

  3. Harassment

    Our group shall not condone physical, sexual, psychological or verbal harassment of employees. The Compliance Desk shall be established for employees who may face or witness harassment to submit complaints and receive counseling.

  4. Respect for Human Rights and Prohibition of Discrimination

    Our group respects the human rights of every person involved with the group, and does not discriminate on the basis of race, nationality, color, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, disability, family origin, or group affiliation. In the hiring, employment, promotion, and salary increase of employees, we will always respect fairness and will not discriminate based on any of the above-mentioned differences.

  5. Freedom of association

    Our group shall respect employees’ freedom of association and rights of collective bargaining.

  6. Work environment

    Our group shall endeavor to provide employees with a safe, secure and healthy working environment.

  7. Work hours

    Our group shall not have our employees work over 60 hours a week unless required for special reasons.

  8. Wages

    Our group shall pay employees more than the minimum wage prescribed by law. Overtime work shall be agreed upon between our group and employees, and overtime allowance shall be paid according to the extra-pay rate prescribed by law.

  9. Environment

    Our group shall faithfully address environmental issues such as global warming, resource depletion and loss of biodiversity, doing our very best to safeguard a sound global environment.

  10. Fair Business Transactions

    Our group shall endeavor to prevent bribery and corruption by acting in accordance with proper business ethics, conducting fair business transactions.

  11. Quality Assurance

    Our group will establish a quality control system with enhanced quality assurance in accordance with quality compliance, in order to provide high quality products and services that satisfy customers.

Upon the Establishment of Komatsu Matere Group Social Compliance Code of Conduct

Komatsu Matere Group compliance principles (hereinafter “our group”) have been indicated in our corporate philosophy and our Code of Conducts Based on Ethical Compliance, and thoroughly understood throughout our group.

Recently, the United Nations and many other international organizations have presented social compliance standards from social aspects such as human rights protection. Businesses are required to fulfill social responsibilities in accordance with this trend.

As part of our activities to promote global business development at present and in future, our group considers it essential to establish principles based on social compliance with a global perspective and sincere and fair attitude.

Therefore, our group will establish the Komatsu Matere Group Social Compliance Code of Conduct to clarify the code of conducts we should follow from the perspective of human factors, abiding by relevant international standards, and fulfilling our responsibilities to society and the environment. This code will be included in our Code of Conducts Based on Ethical Compliance, which complies with international standards.

In future, our group will act according to the Komatsu Matere Group Social Compliance Code of Conduct to promote our international business activities.
